Have you seen the latest on gas prices? That the price will soon go up even higher? Its all over the news and blogs and google.....
I think perhaps it is time to start considering other modes of transportation. Bikes, walking, public transportation or perhaps we should all go back to the horse and buggy. Its hard to say but at the price of gas things are going to be outrageous if our incomes don't increase right along with the price of gas. We thought the 70's were rough on gas prices...if we had only known then what we know now!

Polygamy and children
Its all over the news and has been for a few weeks now. The big polygamy scandal in Texas. What of the children? Many are asking that on the eve of the first big court date to decide the fate of these innocents.
Though I am not for polygamy myself (my poor husband has enough to do with just one wife, let alone several!), I know that polygamy has gone on for decades. Its a totally different world than many of us are used to.
Do the children suffer? I think there are dysfunctional families in all regions of the world and all religions. It doesn't matter who you are or what religion you belong to, there is going to be a certain degree of dysfunction going on. I know that the state feels that they are saving these children from certain fate. I also know that the families and parents of these children are sure that the children are best left with them. Only the children can truly say if they are suffering.
So who gets to decide who gets to live where? The courts do. All 416 of these children will have their fate decided in a courtroom. There are so many that there is talk of doing it in "batches". I mean seriously, are they really planning to "batch" the children together as a bundle? That just sounds so wrong. I can understand trying to keep biologically related children together, but in a polygamist sect this could be a serious challenge.
These children certainly need all of our prayers. They need the judges and guardian ad litems to have wisdom and to be open minded throughout the decision making process. It would be so frightening to be taken away from the only life you had ever known, separated from your families and loved ones and packed into buses and transported to places you have never ventured to before. For a few it might be an adventure, for others its a terrifying nightmare.
Lets keep these youngsters in our prayers these next weeks as their fate is decided. It would be so tragic to send an abused child back into the arms of their abusers, on the other hand, it would be a travesty of justice to remove a child from a truly loving family.
